Healthy skin care starts with a healthy lifestyle. Given optimum conditions, our bodies will function properly and efficiently. We need to provide the best conditions for our skin so that it continues to look good.
Healthy skin care starts with a nutritious diet, regular exercise and water. Fruit and vegetables will provide your skin with vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants so it will be nourished and hydrated. This means your skin looks fresh, clear and glowing – it looks healthy. Drinking 8 glasses of water every day keeps your skin hydrated and looking smooth and fresh.
Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Apart from the general benefits to your muscles, joints and cardio-vascular system, exercise makes you feel good. Exercise gets blood pumping around your body, feeding and refreshing every part, including your skin. This means that life-giving oxygen and nutrients are delivered in greater quantities to your skin to help it look its best.
In this modern age of toxins, polluted air and highly processed food, our skin needs some extra help to keep it looking good. We are exposed to many elements in everyday life that adversely affect our health and cause the skin to react or become stressed. Most of these elements we cant avoid, so we need to take the health of our skin into our own hands. There are many natural products that have been proven over time to heal and protect the skin.
Aloe Vera is one natural product that is a great healer of the skin. You can use the gel straight from the inside of the aloe leaves to treat burns, acne, skin breakouts, dryness, sun and wind burn, cuts and scratches. It really is a complete first aid treatment, and you can grow a plant in your garden or in a pot. Aloe Vera gel is also available from pharmacies and health food shops; look for varieties that contain at least 99% aloe vera.
Our skin needs to be gently cleansed to remove sweat, grime and pollutants if it is to remain clear and healthy. Soap is not a good choice for cleaning the face, as it changes the natural Ph of the skin and strips its natural oils. Instead of soap, use a mild facial cleanser in a lotion form. Gently massage a small amount into your face and neck, in small circular movements. Depending on the instructions on the packaging, either remove with soft facial pads or wash off. Oily skin can then be wiped with witch hazel.
Cleansed skin then needs to be moisturized to protect it against the ravages of the environment. Choose a non-oil based moisturizer and gently spread it onto the face and neck, being careful not to stretch or pull the skin.
Always opt for natural based products that treat your skin and not just the symptomatic problems. If you are finding it difficult to get the necessary vitamins and minerals you should use vitamin supplements. Again it is important to use vitamins with a natural base.
Healthy skin care needs to become part of your lifestyle, and you will be rewarded with fresh, young-looking skin well into your senior years.
