We all know that eating fish is recommended by the medical profession for good health. But did you know that Omega 3 fish oil also helps keep your skin looking great?
If you have dry skin you are more susceptible to fine lines and premature wrinkling of the skin. It was suggested that women from around the Mediterranean had better skin because they used more Olive Oil, both in their diet and on their skin. However, the Mediterranean diet is much higher in Omega 3 than the normal American diet. Less meat and far more fish are eaten in this area of the world and it would seem that it is this that gives them better skin.
EPA (eicopentaenoic acid) is one of the three acids that make up Omega 3, and it is essential in the generation of new cells. We lose millions of skin cells per day and they are being constantly replaced. If our diet is poor in Omega 3 the body will use Omega 6 in the production of new cells, but this does not produce as high a quality cell. It is easy to see why Omega 3 fish oil should be part of our skin care routine.
A recent study on Psoriasis, where some patients were given Omega 3 fish oil in addition to their normal medicine, showed a significant reduction of inflammation compared to a control group who just took the medication. This reduction in inflammation is also seen in Eczema suffers.
But what if dry skin is not your problem? If you suffer from Acne, which is not just experienced by teenagers, it doesn’t make you immune from wrinkles as you age but it certainly makes finding the right moisturizer a nightmare. Because Omega 3 reduces inflammation regardless of what causes it, taking a fish oil supplement can certainly reduce the redness of spots and because it helps build strong tissue it may even reduce the appearance of spots.
A good balanced diet is the first step to improving the appearance of your skin. Having enough Omega 3 is part of that balanced diet. The best source of Omega 3 is found in fish oil. Since most of us can’t eat fish three times per day, the best next thing is supplements. Taking an Omega 3 fish oil supplement high in EPA is a simple way to help your skin from the inside out.
If you need to improve your skin then why not consider trying a fish oil supplement? For more information on the benefits of this supplement visit http://omega3-health-benefits.com
